Finding the right sports team for your kids can be challenging. Some kids love soccer while others love football, and parents often don’t know where to begin. We’ve been looking through the most popular teams in Mt. Lebanon and have found some good ones for you to consider. Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania is a town of roughly 35,000 people, and many of the kids in the area play sports. We looked at the number of players in each sport and ranked them. The sports include football, basketball, baseball, soccer, and volleyball. Soccer is the most popular sport, with about 2,200 players. Football is next, with 1,400 players. Basketball is the third most popular sport, with about 1,000 players. Baseball is fourth, with 700 players. And then there are the smaller sports, like volleyball, which has about 300 players.
It can be hard to find a team that fits your child, so ask them what they like. Many of the leagues have junior and senior teams for players who want to play longer. Other teams have girls’ and boys’ teams, so ask if that would help your child’s gender fit in better. Some of the teams have travel teams, so ask about those.

Pittsburgh Penguins
Pittsburgh is home to the NHL’s Stanley Cup champions. Fans have been following the hockey team since 1967 when the Penguins joined the NHL. This year, the Penguins are having a great season. They finished the regular season tied for first place in the Atlantic Division, winning the Metropolitan Division for the second consecutive season. Pittsburgh is playing for its third consecutive championship against the New Jersey Devils.
Pittsburgh Pirates
Pittsburgh is also home to the MLB’s reigning World Series champion, the Pirates. The team finished in fourth place in the National League Central this season. The Pirates have made the playoffs in six of the past seven seasons, and they’ve won the division once, in 2011. Pittsburgh won the World Series in 1979 and 1992.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh has two NFL franchises, the Steelers and the Pirates. The Steelers are the defending Super Bowl champs. The team is having a great season as well. The team is currently undefeated in the regular season, and they’re playing for a spot in the AFC Championship game.
Pittsburgh Penguins Practice Facility
The new Pittsburgh Penguins practice facility opened in February 2019. The new facility is located in the city’s South Side. The complex includes a 5,000 square foot locker room, an ice rink, a weight room, a sports medicine area and a lounge.
The facility is just off of Interstate 79 and will host the Penguins training camp in July.
Pittsburgh Penguins Youth Hockey
In order to play on the Pittsburgh Penguins youth hockey team, you must be between the ages of 5 and 18 and live within a 30-mile radius of downtown Pittsburgh. The team plays in the USPHL and the CHL. You can learn more about the Pittsburgh Penguins youth hockey program here.
Pittsburgh Penguins Youth Football
The Pittsburgh Steelers have a youth football program. The Steelers offer a full-time football training program for youth in grades 7-12. The program includes instruction on the fundamentals of the sport, team concepts, and game day strategy. The Steelers also offer after school programs and summer camps.
